The Colonial Body of the Museum. For a Critical Practice of the Gaze

Anna Chiara Cimoli, Francesco Frizzera

How to Avoid an Eurocentric Representation, experienced as an objective reality, in museums, public squares, and archives? What examples and methods can accompany a reflection on the heritage left by colonialism?

The conversation between Anna Chiara Cimoli, a museologist, and Francesco Frizzera, the director of the Museum of War in Rovereto, offers a plural reflection on the themes of memory and representation, presenting educational, curatorial, and discursive practices that propose more nuanced interpretations of the stories told so far.

Anna Chiara Cimoli is a researcher and lecturer in Museology at the University of Bergamo. She focuses on the representation of migrations, colonial history, and “otherness” in contemporary museums.

Francesco Frizzera is the director of the Italian Historical Museum of War. He has studied forced population displacements in 20th-century Europe from a transnational perspective.
