Gennaro Lauro

After his studies in Philosophy and Oriental Languages, Gennaro Lauro approached dance and theatre, working since 2013 for Giorgio Rossi, Romeo Castellucci, Cindy Van Acker, Flora Gaudin, Fabiana Ruiz, Aurélien Dougé, Heine Avdal/Yukiko Shinozaki, and Oona Doherty.

Over the years, he has participated in the film projects of Arnold Pasquier and Jérôme Walter Gueguen and collaborated as an assistant for the Berlin company Cuenca/Lauro and for the creations Imago and My Heart is a Gipsy Crow by the Swiss company Divisar.

Since 2018 he has been working on his own creations. His first solo, Sarajevo - la strage dell'uomo tranquillo, is finalist for the Equilibrio Prize 2018 and selected for the Vetrina Anticorpi XL 2018 as well as among the ‘40 Winks’ of Aerowaves 2019.

His second work, Mondo, a French-Italian co-production, is selected for the Vetrina Anticorpi XL 2020 and among the ‘40 Winks’ of Aerowaves 2021.

In 2023, he presents ZugZwang, in collaboration with Elisabetta Lauro. The project is selected for the ResiDance XL 2022 and the NID platform 2024.

Masculinity as a space of relationship and transformation, beyond imposed models and inherited genealogies. With To repel ghosts / letter to the father, Gennaro Lauro attempts to disarm fear, loosen boundaries, and free masculinity from a closed sense of belonging.

The figure of the father, present, absent, endured, internalized, emerges as a way to reconnect with what remains and what might still change. A gesture of listening, a farewell exercise, a slow and ongoing process.

A project that begins at the end in order to become a beginning, where the presence of the other, real or imagined, opens up the possibility for dialogue
