Pietro Marullo, a Neapolitan born in 1985, founded his company Insiemi Irreali in Brussels, a group that expands and contracts depending on the project. An eclectic artist, as his training reflects—after studying Modern Literature, he took movement classes with Wim Vandekeybus and Davide Zambrano, and he has an interest in theater and sculpture—Marullo enjoys mixing languages and disciplines. This is also true for the work debuting at the festival, co-produced by Oriente Occidente and the Théâtre Varia in Brussels. It is titled WRECK – List of Extinct Species and is a project that combines movement and visual arts. Exploring the theme of shipwreck, Marullo presents a soft sculpture, a bubble of air floating in space that takes on polymorphic forms.
To the audience, it may appear as a giant cushion, a sea monster, the wreck of a sunken ship, or a black lung breathing. Evocation and vision are the focal points of this performance, which animates physical matter. The large black monster engulfs and spits out bodies, amplifying the imagination and free associations at various conceptual levels for the viewer.

Oriente Occidente is not just a festival. Among its rich annual activities, it also includes artistic residencies aimed at national and international choreographers under 35. The goal of this project is to provide support for creation—both in terms of welcoming spaces and financial assistance—as well as guaranteeing visibility once the choreographic work is completed.
