The geographic complexity of the Mediterranean, from the southern shores of Europe to the north-western shores of Asia and the northern shores of Africa, can be better understood through the dense interweaving of its histories and the repeated overlapping of territories that make it, today more than yesterday, irreducible to the ideological control of one or more borders, let alone to a unitary and heterodirected narration of its history.
