In addition to her career as an artist and choreographer, Mercedes Ruiz has developed an extensive and intense training and pedagogical activity. She is recognised today as one of the world's most renowned and sought-after teachers of flamenco.
At Oriente Occidente Mercedes Ruiz offers three days of training for two levels: intermediate will be an in-depth study of the 'Tangos' flamenco style and advanced on the 'Canción - Bulería' style of flamenco.
The two sessions involve the construction of a choreography on musical extracts of the guitarist Santiago Lara.
She began dancing professionally at the age of six. She performs almost all over the world and works with the greatest interpreters of modern flamenco, including Eva Yerbabuena, Miguel Poveda y Antonio El Pipa. Mercedes Ruiz received awards such as Best Newcomer at the 2002 Venencia Flamenca Awards, the Biennial Prize at the 2002 Seville Biennial Flamenco Festival, the Critics' Prize at the 2007 Flamenco Festival of Jerez, the Best female interpretation Movimentos Dance Price Wolzburg 2009, among many others.
The workshop is for intermediate and advanced dancers.
